The first few events were very playable. I especially liked the Javelin, triple jump and shot-put. The 100 metres was also fun in short doses. I always hated the 1,500 metres which was the one which usually caused the hardware damage.

The Speccy never had an official Joystick and I think I had one called Quickshot II. It was a joystick without microswitches and kind of had a ball-like base and a fire button on the top and on the base unit. Daley Thompson destroyed it and those were the days of 50 pence a week pocket money, meaning it took 6 months of saving to get a replacement.

My grandparents were also avid parents at the time although they had gone the Atari 2600 route. They had a game called Decathlon for the Atari and this was responsible for killing the official Joysticks too. Things got a little better when the Atari compatible Quickshot Pro joystick was released for the Amiga/Atari which featured steel shaft and heavy duty microswitches.

Again, thanks for the memories.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04802012451865027236noreply@blogger.com
